If you create any kind of new account system, don't make any name be part of the main user identifier. Make it be some sort of auto-generated ID.

tbf I extra-fucked up that shit by connecting my email system and Nextcloud accounts together initially. if I had just had a normal username it would probably not even be an issue now lmao

still, it could easily become an issue. Like, corporate usage with SSO will give you a name-based username most of the time.
